Technology Use Cases
Simagis Live's server-based image analysis is a game-changing technology that makes new applications and business processes possible. See how Simagis Live improves work and opens new opportunities for organizations.
"Better Future" is a global, non-profit health organization fighting Malaria and Tuberculosis in remote areas of Africa, India and Southwest Asia. Microscopy remains primary method of diagnostics for TB and Malaria, and "Better Future" uses portable microscopes developed by scientists in California and Texas to run microcopy blood tests in remote locations. These simple portable microscopes can cost as little as $100, and use cell phone cameras to take the images. An international team of volunteers has trained local staff on collecting and preparing blood samples and taking images, but there are no local experts who can read the images for diagnostics.
"Better Future" is using Simagis Live technology to screen images and send results to experts. Cellular network coverage is making its way to the most remote regions of the world, and cell phone networks are now available in remote town centers. Now local health staff can run microscopy tests in the most remote areas by simply taking images using cell phone camera, and storing them on the cell phone until returning to local town center where network coverage is available. Local staff uses free and friendly Dropbox mobile application to automatically sync up local images with cloud storage whenever cellular data connection is present.
Simagis Live Workspace can "listen" to cloud-based storage locations and process new images as soon as they upload, so the Simagis Live server automatically screens incoming images for signs of malaria and tuberculoses. If disease is detected, the images are immediately shared with expert volunteers worldwide who donate their time to complete the diagnostics. "Better Future" is on a mission to improve global health for the next generation of mankind, using the latest generation of technology.
